I haven’t paid “fool” price for a ticket in years. EVERY resort has some sort of deal going on. I always tell people to pick where they want to go and THEN look for the deal. It’s just easier that way.

Skiing mid-week is always going to be cheaper than skiing on a weekend or holiday, so cut class or call in sick and hit the slopes on a weekday. Another thing I do if I am forced into paying off-the-street prices is to buy a 1/2 day ticket and just stay out the whole time. 4-5 hours of hard skiing anywhere will give you your money’s worth and often it breaks down to something like $5 a run.

I’m in the beginning stages of planning a ski and snowboard vacation for the end of the year. I live in California, but I’m planning on visiting either Colorado or Utah (not sure which yet!) My question is this: I’m going to be flying to my destination, but do I need to rent a car to get between my hotel and the ski resorts or can I just use shuttles? (I’m not even sure if I’m going to stick to one mountain yet or try a few different ones, so I might need to travel between THEM as well.) Also, if I absolutely do need to rent a car, what kind should I get? There will only be two of us, but we’ll have all our gear.

Thanks for your advice!

Whether or not you need to rent a car really depends on where you’re going to be staying. Vail, for instance, has an extensive transit system that would probably render a car pretty unnecessary — the buses run 24 hours a day (365 days a year) on a variety of routes, and are absolutely free! From the airport to your resort, there are a variety of airport shuttles, including the popular CME. http://www.cmex.com/

Speaking of Colorado, you’ll find much the same situation should you decide on Aspen — the town is small enough to traverse on foot, and there’s a free bus service between the four mountains. It’s pioneered by the Roaring Fork Transit Authority and buses run every 15 minutes at pretty much all hours of the day and night.

As for Utah, which you said was your other choice, here’s some good news: 11 of its resorts are within an hour of the airport, so vetoing a rental car won’t bite into the budget TOO much if you need to call on the services of an airport shuttle. Once you’re there, you’ll find that the Utah Transit Authority runs buses from many hotels straight to the slopes. You might also want to look into the Park City Transportation Passport (a link is below), which includes round-trip transportation in a shared-van service to and from the SLC Airport to Park City, as well as free unlimited taxi service within the Park City area.

All that said, however, it is quite nice to have the freedom of your own set of wheels — while you don’t strictly NEED a rental car (even less so if you’re staying in a ski-in ski-out sort of place), some people don’t like the feeling of being carless. If you do decide to go the rental car route, make sure you choose one with a four-wheel drive for those mountain roads — and definitely book it as far in advance as you can, as four-wheel drives sell out pretty quickly on big ski weekends. You’ll also want to have snow chains pretty handy in case you need them. Best advice of all? If you’re unaccustomed to driving in areas where the roads are snowy or icy, give yourself plenty of time and don’t rush.

Hope this helps a little — have a great vacation, wherever you end up going (carless or not!)

–Holly

Baseball sunglasses are as important as any other protective bodywear in a game. Sports sunglasses are indispensable in daylight games. Without them, trying to catch a ball, particularly a ball hit up high, can be difficult. The sun in your eyes can cause eyestrain and increase the chance that the ball will be missed. According to Prevent Blindness America, more than 40,000 people a year suffer sports-related eye injuries.

Sports eyewear comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. Many baseball sunglasses come with lenses that are optimized to eliminate glare and enhance vision, particularly on sunny days. Many baseball players prefer wearing amber sunglasses, even though the lenses aren’t necessarily amber. More often than not, they are either a mirrored type with also known as REVO coating, brown or gray. Polarized lenses are also a plus as they decrease glare and eye strain. UV protection (ultraviolet ray protection) is also a necessity when selecting good eyewear.

Another important feature of sports eyewear is their ability to shield players from serious injury. A thrown or batted baseball can travel at very fast speeds, and the injuries they can cause can be potentially serious. Because of this, it is recommended that baseball players choose sports sunglasses with polycarbonate lenses, which are able to withstand the impact of a baseball and are virtually shatterproof.

Some baseball sunglasses have designs that allow the lens can be changed to suit the lighting condition of a particular game. Also, many versions incorporate a wraparound profile that provides a better field of vision. Others allow for different colored lenses to be swapped out.

As protective gear, baseball sunglasses can enhance a player’s performance and help prevent eye injuries caused by either sunlight or an errant ball. And last, but certainly not least, sports sunglasses are a stylish and lightweight accessory on the field.

ID cards do little good if they spend all day in an employee’s wallet or purse. They are intended to be worn in a visible and easily accessible place. With all the accessories available on the market for displaying badges it is easy to find the perfect fit for any work environment.

Metal and plastic badge clips are the most direct way to attach IDs to clothing. The plastic variety is gaining in popularity since it has no rough edges and the tiny teeth are gentle on fabrics. Employees can further reduce damage to clothing by wearing a badge clip on the bottom hem of a shirt or jacket rather than on the edge of a pocket or lapel. The least expensive clips come on a simple loop but they may also be incorporated into a holder or lanyard for a more polished look.

Clear plastic badge holders protect ID cards from exposure to the elements and keep them from being scratched and scuffed. They also offer a way to loop the holder onto a swivel hook or badge clip without having to perforate the card itself. This is helpful when the card has a magnetic stripe and can’t have a hole punched at the correct orientation without redesigning the entire graphic. Credential holders and arm band badge holders offer additional options for displaying IDs in a professional manner.

A retractable badge reel allows an individual to clip the badge directly to a belt loop for super easy access. Users can swipe a card in a time clock or access control device without unclipping the badge. They can just pull out the ID and let it zip back into place afterward. The retracting mechanism may wear out over time and have to be replaced, but the convenience is well worth the investment.

Badge lanyards come in round braided and woven ribbon styles. Flat woven lanyards can be real fashion accessories and come in colors and prints to suit every taste. They can also be custom printed with company logos for advertising purposes. Buying an assortment of colors and letting employees pick their favorite is a good way to encourage compliance with ID wearing especially if a corporation is just introducing the practice. Trigger hooks, bulldog clips, rings, and swivel hooks offer many ways to attach the badge to the lanyard so that it lies flat against the chest.

Safety release lanyards are designed with one or more breakaway sections that cause the strap to detach from around the neck when sufficient pressure is applied. They are a must have item any time children will be issued lanyards since kids may be at risk for injury while playing. These are also ideal for many manufacturing environments, offices, and outdoor settings. Magnetic style breakaway clasps should not be used around certain types of machinery since they may be attracted to the metal and end up causing the type of hazard they were designed to avoid. For employees who will be bending directly over equipment as part of their job the short badge clips are still the best option.

A brake dust shield or sometimes called brake dust cover is actually aluminum plates that is custom molded to specific vehicle brake system applications. It located between the rim and brake discs of your car right above the wheel. Its strategic location gives effective shielding and collection of debris. To install it, simply slide it to fit onto the wheel. As a performance and maintenance equipment, it is designed to serve as a protective cover or shield to minimize wear and tear due to daily driving. Giving huge savings on maintenance and less frequent system component replacement costs, brake dust cover makes a practical add-on that as a sleek cover that looks great for a protective gear.

VW brake dust cover extends the life of a vehicle’s brake system. But if one cannot afford to buy such Volkswagen part, a practical alternative is to check the brake system once in a while.

Brake systems are one of the most important safety features of your car. It dictates the stops of the vehicle. So it is important to keep them functioning longer with the best protection you can ever give.

If you have even partially lost your brakes in the past, you might be thinking now repairing it as durable as possible. Inspecting your brakes twice a year for wear and damage can protect you and your passengers while saving you money by catching any damage before it becomes too costly.

On many cars, of different types and brands, you can inspect the brakes without even removing the wheel. If your car has alloy wheels with spaces in the middle, you can get a proper assessment done by just peeping through the hole. Whether you can peep through your wheel or you have to take the wheel off, be sure you have a clear view of the brake pads and the big shiny disc.

Try to inspect the disc first. It should be shiny from the inside to the outer edge, and fairly uniform.

No need to worry if you can see slight lines in it. This is a normal wear. If there are any rough spots or pronounced grooves in the disc, however, they should probably be replaced. Brake discs should always be replaced in pairs. This is to assure that your car’s drivability and safety will not be compromised.

Now take a look at the pads. You will have to peek up to see them. But if you follow the surface of the disc to the top, you will see the outside pad touching the disc. If there is 1/8 inches or less remaining on the pad, it is time to replace them with new ones. That is about the height of two pennies stacked. No need to worry about the cost. After all, brake pads are cheap and installing them is “a no-sweat job”.

The most important equipment to your golf game are your golf clubs and the type of ball that you choose to use. But that is not all there is to the game of golf, as there are plenty of other accessories available to help make each golf round more enjoyable and comfortable. Here are some tips on golf apparel and accessories to help you make wise choices when you buy.

The main thing to consider other than style when you buy golf apparel is its comfort. You need to make sure that whatever you wear does not restrict freedom of movement, especially in the backswing. Your clothing should also remain comfortable for the entire round of golf. These days, it pays to look for some of the more modern fabrics that have been specially designed to be able to wick moisture away from your skin when you perspire. These kind of fabrics can certainly help contribute to a more comfortable overall golf experience.

Having a good set of golf shoes will make a significant impact on your game as golf shoes help maintain a good foundation for your swing. Again, there is a wide variety of styles to choose from, and that is a matter of personal taste. But try to choose shoes that are made of a material that will allow you to remain comfortable for the entire time that you spend on the golf course, without causing foot pain or fatigue.

A good golf glove can also make a positive contribution toward your swing, as it helps you maintain a good grip and contact with the club all the way through your swing. For many golfers, it’s easy for the club to twist or slip in your hand during the backswing, but having a good leather glove usually solves this problem altogether.

Unless you usually ride in a motorized golf cart, a golf pull cart can be a wonderful labor saving device as you navigate the golf course. If you have ever tried to carry an average size golf bag for an entire 18 holes of golf, you know how wearing and tiring that can eventually be. But placing your golf bag on a pull cart and rolling along instead relieves most of the heavy burden as you travel. Another advantage of the pull cart is that your bag remains upright at all times and is much easier to access for clubs and other accessories that you may need out of the bag.

Another very useful accessory for most golfers is a good golf umbrella and set of towels. If you play golf very long, you will be sure to be caught in the rain at some point. And when this happens, it often takes place when you are quite a distance away from the clubhouse or some other similar kind of shelter. So having an umbrella to quickly take out is a lifesaver in these cases. Just try to make sure that its well built and constructed so that it will not invert during windy conditions.

After the rain subsides, you will really appreciate having a good set of golf towels available to wipe off your club faces and to keep your golf balls clean. And a good golf towel can also come in for good use during the summertime to help wipe away perspiration.

Most golf accessories are not absolutely essential to the game of golf itself, but they can go a long way in contributing toward making each round of golf more pleasurable and enjoyable, and isn’t that the main reason we play golf?

The travel planet may be going through a downward spiral, excluding European skiing in Austria. It embraces its own in the global market. The skiing crowd has evidently increased in Austria. Austria comes just subsequent to France in amass of fashionable European ski objectives. Austria is the number one target for pop idols and crowned heads, with its well-appointed choices and chocolate box scenery.

Austria is not just menacing, it is quite a spacious and wonderland you can be in for Skiing in this year 2008 and coming 2009. Just in the near past, it was alarmed about that the whole holiday industry was disaster-prone. Reports of global warming, together with poorly timed weather greater than one or two ski periods, intimidated to cut down the banging commerce of Austrian ski resorts. After a fade away, Austria reincarnated in the 2007 and 2008. The Ski seasons were superb and replenishing. The country was piled with snow and the tourists began to rush into the resorts. The records and surveys proved that Austrian resort and holiday bookings tremendously amplified. The temperatures turned out to be moderate again for the best seasons, and they never tend to be too hot. Austria grew to be the tourist spot for the Royal Family, Prince Charles and his sons.

Years back, a voyage made by Lady Diana Spencer through Klosters paved way for the fame and splendor of Austria. On top to the British royal family, Austria’s ski resorts swarmed the sovereign of Sweden in the middle of numerous other celebrated countenances. Austria was outstanding in all means and swiftly won the heart of many. Yes, the region and the countryside are tremendously awe-inspiring. Skiing was introduced at a school initially and later it developed. It was Hannes Scheider who generated this up-to-date method. Skiing was never limited to any age groups and Austria became the floor for teaching Skiing.

Austria’s attractiveness as a ski objective has extra to do with the globally identified Austrian compassion. People appointed in the resorts know the tricks and ways to capture the heart of the guests. You will find the home like feeling here. The folks are ready to accompany the guests and endow any new or old information about the localities and skiing. They know better about the slopes and restaurants. Once you are in this land of ice beauty, you will get pleasure from skiing as well as the freshness and purity bequeathed here. Austrian ski resorts possibly will not split the similar widespread fame of some French resorts. However, benefactors would not have it in the least other way. In Austria, you will never experience a scuttle or pull to ski. By most of the resorts, the gradients are hushed and tranquil, by means of immediate quantity of natural snow.

Austria sings their own praises of beyond explainable natural gorgeousness and a caller catalog counting monarchs and screen idols. The Ski business is going to be far reaching ahead of all expectations in the 2008-2009 holiday periods.

Fencing is a great sport that sparks the imagination of young and old and, at the highest levels, is very entertaining to watch.

Each year thousands of people seek out the sport of fencing and a large number who try it out continue on with the sport, as evidenced by the growth in fencing clubs around the United States in recent years.

While fencing is sometimes hard to find, most large colleges and universities offer basic instruction in their PE departments, and a few also offer it in their continuing education series. Also, many university clubs help supplement their operating costs by running beginning fencing classes and those are taught by experienced fencers.

When looking into taking a fencing class, there are a few things to consider and a few things you should know to get the most enjoyment out of your first fencing class.

First off – make sure to do some basic stretching beforehand. In fencing you do a lot of work with the legs, so stretches that focus on the groin, hamstring, and quads are good. After your first class you will definately feel it in the groin, so learn the “butterfly stretch” and make sure to stretch after every session.

Next, wear comfortable clothes. Don’t wear jeans! You should wear sweat pants that move with you – you’ll be doing lunges so nothing to tight that will restrict movement. A close fitting shirt would be good also since you’ll do some footwork without a protective jacket, but all weapon drills will be with protective gear on.

Women should make sure that the club has hard chest protectors for you to use.

For shoes, stay away from running shoes. Use a court shoe or cross training shoe. Basically anything that provides stability for side to side foot motions.

Most beginning fencing classes cover the basics of footwork and use of the foil, one of three fencing weapons. Most classes meet once per week for 8 to 10 weeks and range in cost from $100 to $150 depending on the level of expertise of the coaching and the area of the country you are in.

Lastly – bring in a sense of fun and desire for learning. You won’t be great your first class in – but there is a lot to learn in the sport. After a few classes, you just may find yourself hooked.

Where did Gothic Fashion Originate?

Gothic style has featured strongly throughout history and prior to their being a fashion style for so called “goths”, buildings, literature and art were referred to as being “gothic”. The original goths were a Germanic tribe that were recorded as having a major part in the fall of the Roman Empire. At the time, Europe’s style was classical and after the fall of Rome, during the Renaissance period, new styles appeared that were unusual and subsequently were referred to as “gothic”.

Gothic sub-culture has always been associated with darkness, mystery and the supernatural as well as the Roman Catholic church. In decades following the Renaissance, a nostaligic wave swept over Europe and the facination with gothic ruins and this alternative lifestyle started to create a following.

Literature and films have developed over history, typically set in a castle or dark ruin and usually featuring an appearance from vampires, mysterious beasts and femme fatales.

Gothic fashion

Romantic style gothic clothing

Gothic culture and fashion is considered to ultimately be about expressing one’s self and being able to be creative, imaginative and unique in appearance and personaility.

Typically, gothic dress consists of mainly black clothes often with black dyed hair, black painted nails and heavy black eyeliner as part of the makeup. Clothes may include tight fitting trousers, long black coats or gowns, gothic style dresses, PVC corsets, chokers, black buckled shoes or boots, piercings and silver or pewter jewwllery. As gothic culture has a strong connection to the Catholic church, crucifixes often feature.

A gothic outfit is often put together mixing items of various different fabrics such as PVC Clothes, latex, leather, fishnet and sometimes fake fur.

This sterotypical gothic look is often referred to as the “romantic goth.

Lolita style gothic clothing

A style called lolita goth” is a similar look to the “romantic goth” and it originated in Japan. Many “lolita” styles borrow ideas from Medieval, Victorian and Elizabethan period dress, such as ruffled high neck shirts, items trimmed wih lace or ribbons and outfits are often both black and white. Accessories such as parasols, lace headresses or top hats accompany the outfit.

Cyber style gothic clothing

More recently, an array of bright colours have been added to the tradional black and people following this new look have called themselves “cyber-goths”. This is gothic fashion moving to a new level as black items are now being combined with neon, wild colourful hair extensions, bright makeup and futuristic accessories such as googles.

PVC Clothes and the gothic look

PVC is one of the most popular fabrics used in gothic fashion. It’s shiny surface offers a contrast to other fabrics like velvet or even just cotton. It is cheaper to buy than leather and latex but has a very similar finish and overall look and feel. Items such as PVC corsets are typical of a gothic outfit, as they are erotic and sexual, which is often represented in the style of gothic fashion. Long black PVC coats and dark thigh high or knee high PVC boots are often used to finish off the gothic look.
